Vax’s Powerful Cordless Vacuum Cleaner

vax air cordless Vax’s Air Cordless was launched earlier this year with glowing reviews. Cordless vacuum cleaners were often used for a quick clean, leaving the serious cleaning for a bigger, more powerful machine. Several cordless machines are now available with better features and better battery life, not to mention improved power. The Vax Air Cordless is truly impressive. Of course, it’s never going to be as powerful as a mains powered vacuum cleaner, but this machine comes close. It’s supplied with two 20 volt lithium batteries, each lasting around 25 minutes. That gives you nearly an hour’s worth of cleaning – much better than previous cordless machines!

Out of the box and assembly

Out of the box, the main unit is complete – apart from the handle, which just snaps into position. One of the lithium batteries can be placed into the battery slot on the main unit (just under the dirt container). The dirt container, approximately 1 litre capacity, contains the premotor filter and the separator, which are all easy to access for maintenance. What is included:

  • Vax Air Cordless main unit
  • 2 in 1 tool
  • Dusting brush
  • Two 20 volt lithium batteries
  • Battery charger
  • Handle for main unit

Assembly takes minutes, if not seconds. The batteries may need charging – 3 hours maximum for each battery. As mentioned above, each battery lasts around 25 minutes so you can keep the second battery charged and ready when needed. Do note, that the battery will simply stop working when the charge has been depleted, so it’s always best to keep another battery charged in case you need it in urgently.

The vacuum cleaner powers on with a click of a button and can manoeuvre easily around objects and furniture, due to the lightweight (4.6kg weight) structure and fantastic design. It almost swings around corners! It uses WindTunnel 3 Technology, which makes it a pretty powerful cordless machine.

Brushbar

The motorised brushbar within the floorhead can be activated by pressing a button, next to the power. The brushbar must only be used on carpets/rugs and not hardfloors. The difference it makes is quite astonishing. It managed to completely clean our rug, which tends to gather hair really easily!

Upholstery and stairs

The hose can be disconnected from the bottom of the unit and clasped onto the handle. This gives easy access to sofas, upholstery etc. Cleaning stairs can be a challenge as the unit needs to remain on the floor. The hose and handle can reach relatively long distances, but not enough for our stairs. However, this is no different to most upright vacuum cleaners. Replacing the hose back at the bottom of the unit can be fiddly.

Accessories

The Vax Air Cordless comes with the 2 in 1 tool and dusting brush. Other accessories can be purchased from Vax, but the included accessories are adequate.

Dirt container and maintenance

Removing the dirt container takes a press of a button to remove from the main unit. Another button releases the flap to empty the contents. Within the dirt container is the premotor filter, which can be emptied and cleaned with water (just make sure the filter is completely dry before placing back into position).

The brushbar will gather lots of hair over time and there may be various small blockages. These can easily be removed, but take care when cleaning.
